Biff Rambles On About … Caching My Check, Tipping My Servers, and My Southern Routes

Biff Hiking #4

There has been some chatter on the internet lately about the absence of activity here at Biff Sock Pow.

Granted, the chatter was caused by a malfunction in one of the server farms located on one of the man-made server islands off the coast of Greenland, which caused some of my older posts to be deleted.  Therefore, several of those posts were enumerated in restoration scripts in a machine-to-machine (M2M) query-and-restore (QnR) session.  This M2M QnR chattering resulted in a slight blip in my stats and caused some of my posts, however briefly, to bubble up into the top 100 of internet search hits involving the search parameters:

  • power socks, buff colored
  • Socks, powder blue
  • Boffo Socks Pow-wow
  • Sock buffing powder
  • Pewter Sock Bifocals
  • Beef Socket Power
  • etc.

The upshot of this was, had my blog been monetized at the time, I would have received a check for the amount of twelve and one-half cents from a shady off-shore organization who only deals in crypto-currencies and buff-colored socks.

However, the servers were restored in due course and my momentary fame and fortune came to an end, thus proving the old adage that fame and fortune and certain varieties of gazelle are fleeting.

All of that, of course, is a complete fabrication.  The real reason I have not posted anything in a week is because I was in Alabama.

And, before you ask:   yes, I did come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee.

“Banjo” is the name of my ventriloquist dummy.  And, yes, he speaks in a Southern twang.

But seriously …

I spent a glorious week in Alabama visiting relatives, relaxing, enjoying lots and lots of authentic Southern cuisine.

Just how Southern was the cuisine, you ask?   Does any of this sound Southern to you?

  • Breakfast
    • homemade biscuits drizzled with sorgham molasses
    • or, eggs, grits, bacon, biscuits
    • or, biscuits with fig preserves
  • Lunch
    • black-eyed-peas and cornbread
    • or, biscuits and ham
  • Dinner (some combination of)
    • black-eyed peas
    • collard greens
    • chicken and dumplings
    • green bean casserole
    • candied yams
    • hamburger soup (a kind of soupy succotash with tomatoes and hamburger added)
    • sliced tomatoes
    • deviled eggs
    • creamed corn
    • brown-n-serve rolls
  • Dessert
    • Peach cobbler
    • Coconut meringue pie
    • Pecan pie

So, yes … it was quite Southern.  And my cardiologist thanks me.  He shall now be able to retire in comfort.

So, I would like to thank all of the internet servers and restoration scripts off the coast of Greenland who missed me in my absence.

  1. Biff, The chatter on the internet about your absence of activity was highly overrated. Highly.
    Patrick from Alabama.
PS: Ever notice how Alabama is on the top of every list? From education, opioids, things to do.

    • Pretty much everything about my blog is highly overrated. 😀

WHich is pretty sad, considering how lowly rated it is.

And I know what you mean about where Alabama shows up on various lists. I grew up in Alabama and Mississippi and I was quite used to being #49 or #50, depending on which day of the week it was.

But I still managed to get a pretty good education and avoid the use of opioids, so dreams DO come true!
