What a fine day it is today!
It is sunny and 67 degrees (19 C). There is just the slightest of breezes. The grass is still green, and most of the leaves are also still green, though a few of them have started turning the traditional reds and yellows of autumn. The sky is a lovely, dark blue and decorated here and there with puffy white clouds.
And, as if that were not enough, last night was Daylight Savings Time (DST) and so I got to enjoy an extra hour of sleep this morning. And not only enjoy it, but enjoy it guilt-free!
And not only is it a beautiful day, but I have actually been productive. I vacuumed up the carpets. True, I did it mostly because the workers who replaced some of the windows in my house on Friday left some broken bits of glass here and there (many of them microscopic slivers).
Of course, one cannot just simply do a household chore. I had to take the vacuum cleaner out into the back yard and give it a good cleaning. I hosed out the HEPA filter (which was nearly completely clogged) and Roto-Rooter’d out the vacuum lines and tubes with a drain snake, and generally cleaned it up. THEN I vacuumed the carpet.
And since it was such a nice day outside, I dug out the tree trimmer and cut back some branches that were scraping against the house and against my brand-new windows.
But you know who the REAL winner is in all of this?
It is my cat.
She is enjoying the large sunny patches of light that are now flooding in through the new windows that are not fogged up with age and moisture (kind of like me).
I think I will model my life after hers. She toils not, nor does she weave … and yet, her food and water dishes are always full.
Enjoy the rest of your day, fellow bloggers, for by 5:00 it will be pitch black.
I’m one of those weird people who actually likes DST. The longer days in the summer, the brighter mornings in the winter. As for losing sleep? Pah! So many days of being short on sleep throughout the year for one reason or another, a couple more for the daylight payoff is well worth it. As for upset biorhythms? Folks should try real jetlag. An hour is pocket change.

I think I’d be much more on-board with DST if it was more of a gradual thing and less of a jarring one-night correction.
My experience with jet-lag is that it has negligible effects on the way TO your destination, but has devastating effects when returning home. I think on the way to a destination, adrenaline offsets the effects of jet lag. But when returning home, and the vacation (or whatever) is over, there is no adrenaline to help us out.

Daylight Saving Time is a major pain over here on the eastern side of the zone. We are actually thinking about Keeping Daylight Saving time year round or joining the Canadians in their much more forgiving time zone. Seriously. We are. And we will be for the ensuing decades.

Hi, Linda! I agree. I am not a big fan of DST. Every 5 or 10 years the rumors begin to fly here that we’re going to get rid of DST, but nothing ever seems to come of it. I would totally vote for getting rid of it, though.
I hope you had a great weekend!

Hey, on a not so related note. Sorry to hear that you are getting a little chilly weather. Stay warm!

Thank you, Linda! It got quite cold last week, but now it’s warm again. Nothing remains for very long here in Dallas.
You stay warm too!

Narrator’s voice: And it was.
Seriously, this Daylight Savings thing has got to go! I’m glad your cat is happy–as for me, I just curl up in a chair by the fire and wait it out:-)

I agree. DST is a major nuisance! I don’t mind the autumn one so much, but the spring one is a major pain.
Curling up in front of a roaring fired definitely sounds like the way to go. I’m envious!

‘She toils not, nor does she weave’ -your clever cat has obviously read her Bible…

She definitely has! Her favorite passage is Isiah 11:6 — “… the leopard will lie down with the goat.” She is trying to convince me to get her a small goat. I assume it is for yoga purposes.
